Queensboro Bridge Bikes

Continuing with the bridge theme, here's an oldie but goodie I just found in my files... it's from Spring of 2001 on a foggy day on the 59th Street Bridge looking towards Manhattan. It was taken with a film camera, hence the slightly different aspect ratio- it's not cropped at all. Feeling groovy:

Still More Crazy Dyker Heights Xmas Lights

Here's a few more pictures of the crazy Christmas lights in Dyker Heights. Wow!

This giant Santa, also featured in my last post, has a videocamera in his base and a remote loudspeaker hooked up to a microphone inside the house, so the owners can see visitors and speak to them through him.

Dyker Heights Christmas Lights Insanity

As promised yesterday, here's the shots of the out of control Christmas lights in Dyker Heights. Apparently taking pictures of Xmas lights isn't as easy as it looks- I ended up with lots of blurry shots. Anyway, this first house has interesting palm trees lights:
Just off the main area for the best lights, this next house has a huge manger:
This brick home had twirling dancers (foreground) and if you look by their front door you will see the giant figurine blocking it:
And now the insanity really begins...behold the majesty and the beauty of someone else paying the electric bill on this bad boy:
They were also blasting Christmas music and there was a Santa for kids to sit on and talk with as well as a person in an Elmo costume walking around. On the right side that's a working ferris wheel:Speaking of Santa Claus...how about this one across the street...that's got to be at least 20 feet tall. Off the hook and over the top, for sure:
Those carousels were spinning and note the reindeer and other figures on the balcony:
This next house had so many blow up things, that I could not fit them all in one shot. There were at least 5 more to the left of this shot as well as a moving Snoopy coming out of a chimney on their roof.
Giant snowman!
This last house had many twirling pajama clad skaters:
One or two more shots coming tomorrow. Seasons greetings to all and to all a good night.

Dyker Heights Lights

The area of Dyker Heights in Brooklyn, near Bay Ridge, is well known for their over the top Christmas light displays. Look for a big post of pictures shortly, but for now here's some videos of a really cool set of houses in Dyker Heights that have their lights perfectly timed to music they broadcast over the radio. There's a sign in front of the houses, telling you what station to tune in. Apologies- the videos are a bit dark, as they were taken through the windows of a tour bus- the one and only Tony from A Slice of Brooklyn Pizza Tours is running Christmas Lights Tours leaving from Manhattan (as featured in the NYPost online today).

Gowanus from the F Train

There's a great view from the F train as it approaches and leaves the Smith & 9th Street station. The Gowanus is in the foreground and Park Slope in the background in this shot.

Gowanus Garage Patch Job

I like the variety of textures concentrated in such a small area in this shot. It looks like almost every square inch of brick on the garage has been patched over at some point. The pigeons at the bottom are enjoying themselves.
